Lorena Hickok was the most famous woman reporter of her day. She was assigned to cover Eleanor Roosevelt, FDR’s wife, during the 1932 Presidential campaign. Hick fell in love and, amazingly, ER returned her feelings. The love affair between the patrician First Lady and the charming, hard-living butch reporter lasted several years. Their friendship lasted ER’s lifetime. Hick chose to sacrifice her own career and happiness to support the woman she loved, who became the greatest American woman of the 20th century.
